For this assignment in visual communication, the composition of the manipulated image is extremely important to create the most effective image. Composition is the arrangement or placement of visual elements. It is important to remember that it is not what you take pictures of that counts, it is how you compose the photos. After conducting some research into the general composition of photos I have come across a very useful article that outlines the 10 rules of photo composition. Firstly, simplify the scene and remember to remove any unneeded or unwanted objects. Remember to fill the frame and carefully leave empty space if you are going to need to edit on top of it. Always remember aspect ratio and avoid the middle as it produces typical, boring photos (however always remember the rule of thirds). Remember your leading lines, do not forget diagonals and give yourself space to move and adjust images. The background is a significant aspect of photographs so make sure to focus special attention on this and get creative with colours! Lastly, photo composition is a visual language so don’t be afraid to break the rules and give new things a go.
